Actuary (Analyst or Associate)
Position Summary
Leads, as assigned, for Commercial Lines and possibly Personal Lines, any or all of: Rate filing preparation and research (including ISO review, competitive analysis, and approval tracking by state/line), rate development work and coordination, rate adequacy and multivariate rate equitability analyses, pricing recommendations, development of rating tools, rate communication to agency force, and other actuarial tasks as needed.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Assist in rate filing preparation, including impact analysis, product research, and competitive analysis.
- Secure filing approvals with state Departments of Insurance (DOIs)
- Utilize ISO, SERFF, and/or S&P tools to understand rating plans and track DOI approvals by state.
- Recommend and support rate actions through rate adequacy and multivariate pricing analyses.
- Assist in programming rates into Actuarial’s internal rating engine.
- Help coordinate and test development work for the implementation of rate change decisions.
- Work with our management reporting team to help maintain rating data in the Actuarial Repository.
- Present business insights to stakeholders, including executives.
- Continue working toward career goals like attainment of actuarial and/or predictive modeling designations.
- Assist with miscellaneous tasks as directed.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
Required – Bachelor’s degree in STEM field (science, technology, engineering, or mathematics).
Preferred –
- Completion of ACAS designation or commensurate experience.
- Successful completion of 2+ SOA/CAS actuarial examinations.
- Successful completion of CSPA and/or CPCU designations.
- Graduate degree in an analytical field.
- A clear understanding of predictive modeling objectives and techniques.
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Highly proficient at Microsoft Excel, including detailed graphs, pivot tables, and possibly macros.
- Advanced coding skills and experience in Python, competency in one or more additional languages preferred (R, SQL, and/or VBA).
Experience:
Required –
- 2+ years of experience in a P&C actuarial role.
- Experience working with ISO commercial rating plans.
- Experience preparing filings and interacting with state DOIs, including preparation of: loss cost adoption forms and supporting deviations from ISO or other advisory organizations.
Preferred –
- Experience working with Guidewire software.
- Familiarity with predictive modeling objectives and techniques.
- Experience with actuarial software like Emblem or Akur8.
- Experience with data visualization tools like PowerBI.
- Familiarity with Git repositories and project coordination of development work.
- Experience developing web apps and APIs in Python.
