Born and raised in Jerome, Barrett has raised his family in the community as well. He is married to his beautiful wife, Sheila, and they have three children: Rhainnon (husband Mario Costa); Sarah, a student at New York University; and Tyler, a student at the University of Idaho. For sixteen years Barrett was on the board of the local highway district, along with other entities in the community. In his spare time, he farms some ground and has a herd of about 100 beef cows. Barrett enjoys his job as an agent for Farm Bureau Insurance and enjoys the people of his community.
