Internal Auditor and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Manager
Position Summary
The Internal Auditor and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Manager is responsible for leading the Company’s internal audit and enterprise risk management functions. This position develops and administers a comprehensive risk-based audit program, evaluates internal controls and governance processes, identifies organizational risks, and recommends improvements designed to strengthen operational effectiveness, financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and enterprise risk management.
The Internal Auditor and ERM Manager serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and the Audit Committee by independently assessing risks and controls across the organization. This position facilitates enterprise-wide risk assessments, monitors emerging and strategic risks, supports compliance with the Model Audit Rule and other regulatory requirements, and provides meaningful reporting regarding the Company’s risk profile and control environment.

Essential Functions Statement(s)
- Develop, maintain, and execute a comprehensive risk-based internal audit plan addressing financial, operational, compliance, information technology, and other significant organizational risks.
- Maintain the independence and objectivity of the internal audit function and communicate directly with executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
- Conduct and oversee audits of Company departments, business processes, systems, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Evaluate the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, governance processes, and risk management practices.
- Prepare and present clear, timely audit reports, findings, recommendations, management responses, and corrective-action status reports to executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
- Monitor and validate management’s implementation of corrective actions resulting from audit findings.
- Lead and coordinate compliance with the NAIC Model Audit Rule, including documentation and testing of internal controls over financial reporting.
- Use the resources of external auditors, consultants, and other subject matter experts as necessary to support audit, control, and risk management responsibilities.
- Coordinate internal audit work with external auditors and regulators to improve coverage, reduce duplication, and support examinations and audits.
- Review financial transactions, reports, and supporting records for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with applicable requirements.
- Recommend new or modified procedures that improve efficiency or compliance and mitigate risk or loss.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management framework.
- Facilitate enterprise-wide risk assessments and assist leaders in identifying, evaluating, prioritizing, and mitigating strategic, operational, financial, regulatory, technological, and reputational risks.
- Develop and maintain the enterprise risk register, risk assessment methodology, risk documentation, and related reporting.
- Monitor key risk indicators and emerging risks that may affect the Company’s objectives or operations.
- Prepare and present periodic ERM reports to executive leadership and the Audit Committee.
- Partner with department leaders to develop risk mitigation strategies, assign accountability, and monitor implementation.
- Provide risk and control analysis for significant projects, systems, business decisions, and organizational changes.
- Research and communicate developments in insurance regulation, internal audit, governance, and enterprise risk management practices.
- Promote ethical business practices, accountability, risk awareness, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
- Assist in developing and maintaining policies, procedures, and governance standards.
- Plan for the future growth of the internal audit and ERM functions, including the potential supervision, coaching, and development of staff.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive Company, financial, regulatory, operational, and personnel information.
- Other duties as deemed necessary and appropriate.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. A degree in Accounting is preferred. Degrees in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, Economics, or a related field may also be considered. Applicants with substantial insurance operations experience may also be considered.
Experience: Five (5) years of insurance industry experience required. Experience in underwriting, insurance operations, reporting, actuarial, finance, internal audit, compliance, or risk management preferred. Experience evaluating business processes, internal controls, operational risks, or financial reporting processes preferred.
Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Ability to analyze data, prepare professional reports, and present information to executive leadership and board-level audiences.
